Ocean Winds in the UK has opened applications for the 2025 intake of its scholarship programme to support students from the Moray and Aberdeenshire areas through undergraduate degrees. Successful students will be awarded up to £6,000.
Ocean Winds (OW), a 50-50 joint venture by EDP Renewables and ENGIE, has opened applications for the 2025 intake of the Ocean Winds Scholarship Fund, in the United-Kingdom. The funds will assist undergraduate students from Moray, Aberdeenshire, Aberdeen City and Highland cover their study and living costs during the course of the degrees.
Now in its fourth year, the scholarship fund aims to assist students in the North East of Scotland studying a course related to offshore wind including, but not limited to, STEM subjects, geography, accounting, economics, law, human resources, media, communications and events planning.
The scholarship fund is part of Ocean Winds award winning skills development programme, which includes a Pre-apprenticeship scheme run in partnership with ESP and NESCol, AR Welding Equipment for the Scottish College network and the STEM Leader 7 qualification delivered in partnership with SSERC to all high schools across Scotland.
Further information and details on how to apply for the scheme can be found on the Blackbullion website.
And throughout 2024, we engaged with partners to promote the skills development necessary to achieve the country’s net zero ambitions. This included, among a wide range of activities, funding a landmark pre-apprenticeship programme developed by Energy Skills Partnership and North East Scotland College, as well as – again in cooperation with ESP – financing augmented reality systems that are being used in welding training across Scottish colleges.
Commenting, Adam Morrison, UK Country Manager for Ocean Winds:
“Ocean Winds recognises the urgent need to find and skill the future workforce of our sector to deliver the ambitious targets set by Scottish and UK governments. We are committed to ‘paying it forwards’ to grow the talent base for our own needs and that of the supply chain.
Ocean Winds understands the value in fostering the skills base and our skills development strategy helps support young people to find the right pathway into our sector. Our existing STEM programme is helping to raise awareness of the fantastic opportunities in our sector. The Ocean Winds Scholarship fund has gone from strength to strength and will continue to help young undergraduates from the regions around our Operations and Maintenace bases with the costs of studying for a degree.”
