Caledonia Offshore Wind Farm is pleased to announce the successful deployment of three Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM) devices in the Moray Firth to monitor activity of the North Atlantic Minke Whale.
The campaign has been carried out in partnership with SAMS Enterprise along with Muir Mhor Offshore Wind Farm, Broadshore Offshore Wind Farm, NatureScot, and Crown Estate Scotland and will increase knowledge of the species in the region where Caledonia Offshore Wind Farm will be developed.
Marine Environmental Solutions facilitated the deployment of the Passive Acoustic Monitoring devices at strategic locations within the Southern Trench Marine Protected Area (MPA) and these will remain in place for 20 months, spanning two summer sessions during peak Minke Whale presence in the region.
Understanding how the project will interact with the marine environment is a key consideration for Caledonia. This campaign will provide dedicated year-round monitoring to increase understanding of local Minke Whale presence in coastal waters along the currently considered cable routes and within the wider MPA.
